(ge 10)
With the request to review the book I received following description: Butterfly Blink is a book without words.
This wordless picture book fantasy helps kids cement vocabulary as they describe the action.
It’s a learning tool for children between 2 and 6.
The fact that it is about butterflies reminded me of my first “lecture” (age10) in primary school: butterflies! I love them.
My wedding ring is a butterfly ring and the inscription in my husbands ring reads: “Favola delle farfalle” which means: Fairytale of the butterflies. Last but not least one of my main characters in my storybooks is called: princess Butterfly
It tickled my curiosity to find out what story this book without words would reveal to me.
The illustrations are beautiful. I started without reading the synopsis. At first I could not find a story. I went over the book several times and finally the story appeared. The life of a butterfly (birth, life and death)
Taking into consideration the target group, unless someone reads the synopsis and explain it upfront, I don't think they can make a story out of it.
For children of a very young age I have my doubts, even with explanation, I think the illustrations are too detailed for them too.
Never the less I find the book and the story it tells beautiful, maybe the author could consider it for a different age group. Providing a little more information about the butterfly / lifecycle, I’m sure the story will tell itself.
