It took me a couple of years before I read the second novel of Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children. However the first novel made such an impact that the time in between was reduced to "nil", as if I had finished the first novel the day before.
Story:
Jacob, Emma, and the other "peculiar" kids have escaped Miss Peregrine’s island and are outside their time loop.
They are on the run from the "wights" and "hollows" in 1940s England. Along with them is their guardian and headmistress, Miss Peregrine, who's stuck in her bird form after being captured. Restoring her requires the aid of one of her fellow "ymbrynes," but they've all vanished but one. The time-and-space-hopping quest to heal Miss Peregrine takes the kids to London, the HOLLOW CITY. They get the help from other peculiars, also animals, which they meet on their way.
For me the story had "ups and downs". It was too much running and bumping into the same situation over and over again. As if the world that was created, existed only of "peculiars" and "wights". The photo's didn't bring added value to the book in my opinion, maybe because the characters they sometimes represented didn't really "touched"me.
I liked the twist at the end. I knew there was something "wrong" when the bird (miss Peregrine) picked the pigeon to death but I wasn't expecting Caul, to turn out to be the bird they thought was Miss Peregrine.
Although it lacked a bit the magic of the first book, I still like it and I am ready for the third novel "Library if Souls" because I want to know how it all ends. ;-)
